About Me
I started my education at Auburn University in the fall of 2017. As an Agricultural Communications major, I have learned the rhetorical and professional skills necessary to navigate the field of communications. A minor in Creative Writing gave me the opportunity to evaluate fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and prose. I was taught by the best professors possible, and this has enabled me to make their knowledge my own. A passion for the agriculture industry has allowed me to have many unique experiences while at college, including a membership in Sigma Alpha Professional Agricultural Sorority. Involvement in this philanthropic organization taught me professionalism as well as the values of scholarship, leadership, fellowship, and service. A lifelong love of writing and research has led to my success as a student and future success as an employee. I also excel at and enjoy graphic design and web design.
I am currently the Social Media Manager Intern at Lee County Humane Society, and having the opportunity to learn from my supervisor one-on-one has been so beneficial for my professional growth. This internship has combined two of my greatest loves: being creative and animals. Using my skills to find families for homeless pets has given me invaluable experience and a sense of purpose. You can see some of the of the work I've done for my internship under the Creations + Research tab on this website's menu. I believe that the skills, knowledge, and passions that I bring to the table are unique and conducive to a wonderful work environment. I hope to gain more experience as a communicator and writer in my chosen field of composition. I have always aspired to be a published poet and author and hope to have books of my own published in the near future. I plan to graduate with my Bachelor's degree in December of 2021.
My Background & Passions
I grew up in the small town of Monroeville, Alabama. Though my hometown was made famous by the talented Harper Lee, I knew her differently. She was a close friend of my grandmother, who lives down the street from my parents' home. To me, Harper Lee was Miss Nelle. Though I was too young to think of asking her for guidance as a child, being raised around an author who seemed like "one of us" and who I would later learn was famous made my dream of being an author and a poet more achievable in my mind. I have worked hard at my craft, as can be seen in the "Writing Samples" section of this website, and aspire to make Monroeville famous once again someday. If Miss Nelle can do it, why can't I?
A love for Native American culture was sparked in me as a young child when my grandmother began taking me to powwows. I belong to the Mvskoke (Muskogee) Nation, Wind Clan, and the tribe called the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. I have been researching my heritage and writing about my experiences as a mixed Indigenous person since I was a junior in high school. Diversity and a knowledge of cultures is very important to me, and the preservation of cultural traditions and my language has become what I know will be a lifelong passion. I've dedicated five years to learning the Mvskoke language, and I am still in the process of learning. I recently created an online course for other Mvskoke natives to learn the language. It currently has 43 enrollees.
I was a Pre-Veterinary major for two years at Auburn University before I found my true calling. I have a deep love for animals of all kinds and have years of experience volunteering at veterinary clinics. Currently, I only have one pet: a guinea pig named Hogwarts.
My favorite hobby is bullet journaling. It's a great way for me to boost my productivity through a creative outlet. I am a firm believer in the bullet journal method for ADHD and others who are neurodiverse as a way to not only make life easier, but also exponentially more enjoyable.
